I was just idley browsing the springhead
pubs website when I saw that Nazareth were due to play there! I had to check on
Naz’s website to make sure it was THE Nazareth! The Stadium filling band of the
70’s was coming to play in a local Pub!!!!!!!!! INCREDIBLE!!!!!!
Arrived
at the Springhead in good time and were fortunate enough to get seats right at
the front by the stage, The Venue soon filled to the 300 capacity. Lincolnshire
Band, Black #5 were the first on stage playing a selection of songs from their
first album “Last few hours”, songs like Billy pilgrim’s progress and Wrong
kind had some pretty good riffs, Black #5 are a melodic semi-heavy band and the
rock fans in the Springhead seemed to take to them quite well.

On to the main event….. Nazareth came on to the
tiny Springhead Stage to a huge welcome from the fans. Opening their set with
Changing times. Dan McCafferty has lost nothing from his voice range or power,
even though his hair has turned white! Pete Agnew, the other original band
member is still a brilliant Bassman and along with his son Lee on the drums,
form the “Engine room” of the band. Completing the line up is Jimmy Murrison on
lead guitar, all the guys compliment each other perfectly, as befits a band of
this stature. The band continued with a selection of songs from their 30 years
plus career ending the night with this flight tonight, hair of the dog, and
love hurts followed by an encore of Night woman and Broken down angel. The
capacity
audience were still shouting for more at the end of the night.
Despite seeing Clapton at Sheffield this year and
Bryan Adams at the KC, THIS was the outstanding gig of the year for me, I don’t
know if it was the fact it was in a small venue and was very up close and
personal, or if it was just the fabulous performance of the band, Either way,
it was awesome!
If any of the band read this…….
PLEASE COME BACK IN 2005!!!!!!
